California hit by recession – 19 Oct 09

The US state of California has been badly hit by the global recession. The area worst affected is Imperial County in the southeastern corner of the state. It has the highest unemployment rate in the nation – more than 30 per cent of the work force. Agriculture, the sector once sustaining the economy, has seen sales of its main crop lettuce plummet. Al Jazeera’s Mike Kirsch reports.
